Tips for eating well

These practical tips may assist you formulate healthier choices. The two keys to a healthy diet are intake the right quantity of food for how active you are and eating a choice of foods to make sure you're getting a balanced diet.

A healthy balanced diet includes a range of food, with lots of fruit, vegetables and starchy foods such as whole meal bread and wholegrain cereals; several protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, eggs and lentils; and some dairy foods.

Base your meals on starchy foods
Eat lots of fruit and veg
Eat more fish
Cut down on saturated fat and sugar
Try to eat less salt - no more than 6g a day
Get active and try to be a healthy weight
Drink plenty of water
Don't skip breakfast
