Environmental health services
Those services which implement environmental health policies through monitoring and control activities. They also carry out that role by promoting the improvement of environmental parameters and by encouraging the use of environmentally friendly and healthy technologies and behaviors. They also have a leading role in developing and suggesting new policy areas.
Environmental health practitioners may be known as sanitarians, public health inspectors, environmental health specialists or environmental health officers. Many states in the United States require that individuals have professional licenses in order to practice environmental health. California state law defines the scope of practice of environmental health as follows:"Scope of practice in environmental health" means the practice of environmental health by registered environmental health specialists in the public and private sector within the meaning of this article and includes, but is not limited to, organization, management, education, enforcement, consultation, and emergency response for the purpose of prevention of environmental health hazards and the promotion and protection of the public health and the environment in the following areas: food protection; housing; institutional environmental health; land use; community noise control; recreational swimming areas and waters; electromagnetic radiation control; solid, liquid, and hazardous materials management; underground storage tank control; onsite septic systems; vector control; drinking water quality; water sanitation; emergency preparedness; and milk and dairy sanitation

Cryptography
Cryptography simply refers that hiding information. Its combination of both maths and computer science and is associated with information theory, engineering and computer security. Cryptography is the process of Encryption and Decryption. In this encryption process the given plain text converted into cipher text at sender side. In the receiver side encrypted code will be converted into decrypted format, in the sense the cipher text can converted into plain text. Some key might used at both the encrypted and decrypted process. Two types of keys used; they are Symmetric encryption key and asymmetric encryption keys. Symmetric encryption uses the single key for both encryption and decryption. But asymmetric uses the public key encryption. Cryptography provides the following safety measures, major part of these measures are Authentication, privacy/confidentiality, Integrity and non-reputations.

Swaraj and the Salt Satyagraha
At 10 Downing St., 1931The government, represented by Lord Edward Irwin, decided to negotiate with Gandhi. The Gandhi–Irwin Pact was signed in March 1931. The British Government agreed to set all political prisoners free in return for the suspension of the civil disobedience movement. As a result of the pact, Gandhi was also invited to attend the Round Table Conference in London as the sole representative of the Indian National Congress. The conference was a disappointment to Gandhi and the nationalists, as it focused on the Indian princes and Indian minorities rather than the transfer of power. Furthermore, Lord Irwin's successor, Lord Willingdon, embarked on a new campaign of controlling and subduing the movement of the nationalists. Gandhi was again arrested, and the government attempted to negate his influence by completely isolating him from his followers. However, this tactic was not successful. In 1932, through the campaigning of the Dalit leader B. R. Ambedkar, the government granted untouchables separate electorates under the new constitution. In protest, Gandhi embarked on a six-day fast in September 1932, successfully forcing the government to adopt a more equitable arrangement via negotiations mediated by the Dalit cricketer turned political leader Palwankar Baloo. This was the start of a new campaign by Gandhi to improve the lives of the untouchables, whom he named Harijans, the children of God. On 8 May 1933 Gandhi began a 21-day fast of self-purification to help the Harijan movement.[13] This new campaign was not universally embraced within the Dalit community, however, as prominent leader B. R. Ambedkar condemned Gandhi's use of the term Harijans as saying that Dalits were socially immature, and that privileged caste Indians played a paternalistic role. Ambedkar and his allies also felt Gandhi was undermining Dalit political rights. Gandhi, although born into the Vaishya caste, insisted that he was able to speak on behalf of Dalits, despite the availability of Dalit activists such as Ambedkar.
In the summer of 1934, three unsuccessful attempts were made on his life.
When the Congress Party chose to contest elections and accept power under the Federation scheme, Gandhi decided to resign from party membership. He did not disagree with the party's move, but felt that if he resigned, his popularity with Indians would cease to stifle the party's membership, that actually varied from communists, socialists, trade unionists, students, religious conservatives, to those with pro-business convictions and that these various voices would get a chance to make themselves heard. Gandhi also did not want to prove a target for Raj propaganda by leading a party that had temporarily accepted political accommodation with the Raj.[14]
Gandhi returned to the head in 1936, with the Nehru presidency and the Lucknow session of the Congress. Although Gandhi desired a total focus on the task of winning independence and not speculation about India's future, he did not restrain the Congress from adopting socialism as its goal. Gandhi had a clash with Subhas Bose, who had been elected to the presidency in 1938. Gandhi's main points of contention with Bose were his lack of commitment to democracy, and lack of faith in non-violence. Bose won his second term despite Gandhi's criticism, but left the Congress when the All-India leaders resigned en masse in protest against his abandonment of the principles introduced by Gandhi

How much of each food group do a person need?
Vary your veggies: Eat more dark green veggies, such as broccoli, kale, and other dark leafy greens; orange veggies, such as carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and winter squash; and beans and peas, such as pinto beans, kidney beans, black beans, garbanzo beans, split peas and lentils. Teen girls need 2½ cups of vegetables each day.
Get your calcium-rich foods: Teen girls need 1,300 milligrams of calcium every day, which equals 130% of the DV (Daily Value) of the 1,000 milligrams that is recommended for adults. This means that teen girls need 30% more calcium than adults need. To get 1,300 milligrams each day, drink and eat a variety of foods that are high in calcium, such as fat-free or low-fat milk, fat-free yogurt, American cheese, ricotta cheese, and fruit yogurt and consume the recommended amounts from the other food groups. It would take 3 cups of milk to get 1,300 mg of calcium.
Make half your grains whole: Of the about 6 ounce-equivalents of grains teen girls need every day, at least 3 should be whole-grain cereals, breads, crackers, rice, or pasta. One ounce-equivalent is about 1 slice of bread, 1 cup of breakfast cereal, or ¼ cup of cooked rice or pasta. Look to see that grains such as wheat, rice, oats, or corn are called "whole" in the list of ingredients. Bread that is just called "wheat" bread is not the same as "whole wheat bread." Look for "whole wheat" to know it is the healthiest option.
Go lean with protein : Choose lean meats and poultry that are baked, broiled or grilled. And vary your protein choices by also eating more fish, beans, peas, nuts, and seeds. Teen girls need about 5½ ounces of lean protein each day. A 2-3 ounce serving of meat, poultry, or fish is equal to the size of a deck of cards.

Iron deficiency
Red meat is the richest source of iron. The iron in animal sources is absorbed easily by the body.
There is also iron in pulses (such as lentils and beans), dried fruit, green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds, and in fortified breakfast cereals. The iron in these foods is not so easily absorbed by the body.
If iron levels are low, the amount of haemoglobin in our red blood cells, as well as the number of red blood cells, is reduced. This is called anaemia.
All the tissues and cells in the body depend on oxygen to function properly; if they receive less oxygen, they won't work so well.
On average, adult men need 8.7mg of iron a day. For women the figure is 14.8mg.

Endometriosis
In order to properly diagnose endometriosis, it is necessary to have a laparoscopy performed. In some instances, a woman's endometriosis can be treated during this diagnostic procedure. While this can improve symptoms, it will not completely cure the endometriosis. Medicinal treatment, including pain killers, can be pursued in order to manage the symptoms associated with the condition. Alternative treatments such as ayurveda medicine are also available, and some women have found success through dietary changes. Chiropractic treatment and yoga therapy are among other treatment options for endometriosis. Those looking for a more permanent solution may want to consider surgical treatment.
Endometriosis can be both physically and emotionally crippling. Finding ways to cope with the condition is important to maintaining your health. If you suspect that you may have endometriosis, it is important to talk with your doctor about it. Read an article about common emotions experienced by women with endometriosis.
Not all doctors are familiar with the condition and may pass off your discomfort as normal menstrual pains, which can be a frustrating experience. Many symptoms of endometriosis are similar to the signs of some forms of cancer. This makes it extremely important to receive proper diagnosis, and be familiar with some of the risks associated with endometriosis and cancer.
While greater public awareness on the matter has helped, experts suggest that it can take as much as nine years before a woman receives a proper diagnosis. If you are unsure of what to say to your doctor, you may want to establish a script beforehand to ensure that you express all your key points out to your doctor. Find out more about keeping a pain diary and other tips when talking to your doctor about your endometriosis symptoms at Talking to Your Doctor about Endometriosis.

Infertility
Experiencing infertility issues can be difficult for any couple. Just why a couple is having problems getting pregnant, though, can vary. In some cases, female infertility issues, such as premature ovarian failure, PCOS or advanced age are behind the troubles while others will be unable to conceive due to male infertility, such as impotence, structural problems, and blockages. In some cases, irregular menstruation such as amenorrhea or ovulatory disorders such as anovulation may signal a fertility problem. Other times, drugs, both prescribed and recreational, may be the culprit behind your fertility woes. However, for some couples, there will be no explanation as to just why they have fertility troubles.
When you are undergoing fertility testing, it is helpful to know just what type of tests you can expect. For more information on typical fertility assessments, take a look at Infertility Testing. In some cases, though, more specific testing may be required. This can include testing for antiphospholipid antibodies or even a diagnostic laparoscopy. A common procedure used to both diagnose fertility problems and help out with treatments is ultrasound.
Depending on just what your diagnosis is, there are a variety of treatments that may be useful to you. These can include fertility drugs like clomid, artificial insemination methods like IVF, ICSI, PGD, GIFT, ZIFT, and IUI, and sperm, embryo or egg donation. There are also a number of alternative fertility treatments that have been found to be affective, both on their own and as a complementary treatment to traditional infertility solutions. Couples who do not wish to pursue fertility treatments may want to consider adoption to achieve their dreams of a family.

Health Insurance
You can also purchase health insurance on your own. It usually costs you more than employer-based insurance. People who meet certain requirements can qualify for government health insurance, such as Medicare and Medicaid. If you do not have health insurance, you must pay your medical bills directly or rely on health care providers or organizations that donate care.

Exercise and Physical Fitness
Regular exercise is a critical part of staying healthy. People who are active live longer and feel better. Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight. It can delay or prevent diabetes, some cancers and heart problems.
Most adults need at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least five days per week. Examples include walking briskly, mowing the lawn, dancing, swimming for recreation or bicycling. Stretching and weight training can also strengthen your body and improve your fitness level.
The key is to find the right exercise for you. If it is fun, you are more likely to stay motivated. You may want to walk with a friend, join a class or plan a group bike ride. If you've been inactive for awhile, use a sensible approach and start out slowly.

Why Folic Acid is So Important
folic acid in her body before she is pregnant, it can help prevent major birth defects of her
baby’s brain and spine. These birth defects are called neural tube defects or NTDs. Women need
to take folic acid every day starting before they are pregnant to help prevent NTDs.
The B vitamin folic acid helps prevent birth defects. If a woman has enough folic acid in her
body before and while she is pregnant, her baby is less likely to have a major birth defect of
the brain or spine. Most women do not know how important folic acid is for their bodies and for the health of a baby they might have in the future. They also do not know that a woman needs to take folic acid every day, starting before she is pregnant, for it to work to prevent birth defects.
Birth defects of a baby’s brain or spine happen in the first few weeks of pregnancy, often
before a woman knows that she is pregnant. That is why it is important for a woman to get enough folic acid each day, starting before she is pregnant.
A woman’s body uses folic acid to make healthy new cells for her baby. Scientists are not sure
how folic acid works to prevent birth defects, but they do know that it is needed for making
the cells that will form a baby’s brain, spine, organs, skin, and bones. Every woman needs folic acid for the healthy new cells her body makes every day.Even if she is not planning to get pregnant

How are weight-related health risks determined?
BMI can be used to screen for both overweight and obesity in adults. It is the measurement of choice for many obesity researchers and other health professionals, as well as the definition used in most published information on overweight and obesity. BMI is a calculation based on height and weight, and it is not gender-specific in adults. BMI does not directly measure percentage of body fat, but it is a more accurate indicator of overweight and obesity than relying on weight alone.
BMI is calculated by dividing a person’s weight in kilograms by height in meters squared. The mathematical formula is “weight (kg)/height (m²).”
To determine BMI using pounds and inches, multiply weight in pounds by 704.5,* divide the result by height in inches, and then divide that result by height in inches a second time.

Death From Febrile Seizure Rare in Children
Febrile seizure, a generalized convulsion caused by increased body temperature, affects 2 percent to 5 percent of children under age 5. About one-third of affected children have more than one seizure episode. Many parents fear their child is dying during a febrile seizure and are worried death may occur during subsequent seizures, according to background information in a news release about the study.
This study included almost 1,676,000 children born in Denmark between 1977 and 2004, who were followed from three months of age until death, emigration or Aug. 31, 2005. Among the children, there were a total of 8,172 deaths, including 232 deaths among the 55,215 children with a history of febrile seizure.
Overall, 132 per 100,000 children died within two years of a febrile seizure compared with 67 per 100,000 children without a history of the condition.
The duration of the fever episode seemed to matter, however. The death rate for children with simple febrile seizures (lasting less than 15 minutes and none recurring within 24 hours) was similar to that of children in the general population. In contrast, the death rate for children with complex febrile seizures (lasting longer than 15 minutes or recurring within 24 hours) was twice as high in the two years following the seizure than in the general population.
But the researchers emphasized that the overall risk of death among children with febrile seizures is small -- 2 deaths per 1,500 children, compared with 1 death per 1,500 children in the general population.
"Children with simple febrile seizures had a risk of death similar to the background population, whereas those with complex febrile seizures, febrile seizures triggered by a temperature below 39 degrees C, and febrile seizures occurring before 12 months of age had a twofold higher mortality lasting for about two years. The excess mortality was at least partly due to pre-existing neurological abnormalities and subsequent epilepsy ... Parents should be reassured that death after febrile seizures is very rare, even in high-risk children," the researchers concluded.
Sleep quality drops with age, but effects diminish
"This study is novel in part due to the sheer size and scope of the study compared to earlier works," first author Dr. Mark L. Unruh noted in correspondence with Reuters Health. By studying older individuals still living in the community, the results may be generalized to the majority of older adults.
Unruh's group designed the study to determine whether "sleep problems in older adults should be addressed by treating underlying conditions rather than viewed as simply a consequence of aging." The study included 5,407 subjects who completed a sleep questionnaire and underwent a home sleep study.
According to Unruh, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and co-investigators, the sleep test, or "polysomnography," showed that the total average nightly sleep time declined from 386 minutes among women in their 40s to 341 minutes among those 80 years of age or older. In men, the corresponding sleep times declined from 361 minutes to 326 minutes.

7 or 8 Hours of Sleep Best for Health
"In terms of prevention, our findings indicate that consistently sleeping seven or eight hours a night is optimal for health," study author Jane E. Ferrie, of University College London Medical School, said in a prepared statement.
Her team studied more than 8,000 people, aged 35 to 55, who were followed for a number of years.
Among participants who slept six, seven or eight hours a night at the start of the study, a decrease in nightly sleep duration was associated with a 110 percent excess risk of cardiovascular-related death.
Similarly, among those who slept seven or eight hours per night at the start of the study, an increase in nightly sleep duration was associated with a 110 percent excess risk of non-cardiovascular death.
The study appears in the Dec. 1 issue of Sleep.
On average, most adults need seven to eight hours of sleep per night to feel well-rested and alert, according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Football can wither Players
Previous research has recommended that gravity-related compression of the spine can reason a person to lose as much as 1 percent of their height in a regular day. Fortunately, this height loss is recovered throughout sleep.
In this study, researchers seem at 10 football players whose positions were most probable to rendering them to repetitive longitudinal loading of the spine over the course of a game due to blocking, tackling and other maneuvers.
Every player's height was calculated before and after the game. Their average pre-game height was 176.56 centimeters, and their average post-game height was 175.81 centimeters.
"The results specify that high school football players' heights reduce during the course of a game by approximately one full centimeter," study author Brian J. Campbell said in a prepared statement.

Low-Salt Diet May Not Be Best for Heart
Surprising new research suggests that a diet low in salt may be worse for your heart than eating lots of salt, but don't start eating potato chips just yet.
The study, published online in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, doesn't confirm that a low-salt diet itself is bad for the heart. But it does say that people who eat the least salt suffer from the highest rates of death from cardiac disease.
"Our findings suggest that one cannot simply assume, without evidence, that lower salt diets 'can't hurt,' " Cohen said.
Cohen and his colleagues looked at a federal health survey of about 8,700 Americans between 1988 and 1994. All were over 30, and none were on special low-salt diets. The researchers then checked to see what happened to the volunteers by the year 2000. Even after the researchers adjusted their statistics to account for the effect of cardiac risk factors like smoking and diabetes, the 25 percent of the population who ate the least salt were 80 percent more likely to die of cardiac disease than the 25 percent who ate the most salt.
Cohen doesn't discount that salt could be bad for some people. However, "the main argument for reducing salt in prevention of heart disease has been that there's a relationship between higher sodium and higher blood pressure," he said. "There have been many studies of this relationship, but when one actually looks at the numbers, the average blood pressure difference associated with quite a bit of sodium intake is very modest."

Looking for heart disease? The eyes have it
People with a kind of eye damage recognized as retinopathy were most probable to die of heart disease over the next 12 years than those lacking it, according to the team at the University of Sydney and the University of Melbourne in Australia and the National University of Singapore.
They studied the retinal photographs of 3,000 people, mainly of who had diabetes. Such snapshots are frequently taken to see if the diabetes has started to injure the eyes. Then they verify records for deaths.
"More than 12 years, 353 participants (11.9 percent) had incident coronary heart disease-related deaths," the researchers statement in the journal Heart.
People with retinopathy were almost twice as liable to die of heart disease as people without it, said the team, led by the University of Sydney's Gerald Liew.
Retinopathy increases the risk of heart disease as much as diabetes did, they found. Diabetes is an eminent risk factor for heart disease, the leading reason of death in most industrialized nations and a lot of developing ones.
People with these changes can be receiving a first caution that injure is happening in their arteries, and work to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, the researchers said.

Parathyroid Disorders
If your parathyroid glands make too much or too little hormone, it disrupts this balance. If they secrete extra PTH, you have hyperparathyroidism, and your blood calcium rises. In many cases, a benign tumor on a parathyroid gland makes it overactive. Or, the extra hormones can come from enlarged parathyroid glands. Very rarely, the cause is cancer.
If you do not have enough PTH, you have hypoparathyroidism. Your blood will have too little calcium and too much phosphorous. Causes include injury to the glands, endocrine disorders or genetic conditions. Treatment is aimed at restoring the balance of calcium and phosphorous.

New Test Identifies Heavy Drinkers
The Early Detection of Alcohol Consumption (EDAC) test finds out the possibility of heavy drinking in the preceding four to six weeks and could assist physicians spot and treat problem drinkers quicker. It uses an algorithm of 20 blood chemistry levels and evaluates the subject's test outcome to data from above 1,700 heavy and light drinkers in a record.
The record categorize heavy drinkers as men reporting more than five drinks a day or women having more than four drinks a day.
A presentation regarding the test and its efficiency was to be made Wednesday at the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) annual meeting, in Washington, D.C.
When patients are face up to with test results, they can be more probable to change their activities said James Harasymiw, director of Alcohol Detection Services in Big Bend, Wisc., in a news release issue by the AACC.
Physicians can show patients the test results to assist convince them that their drinking is make serious damage to their organs and other biologic systems, Harasymiw said.

Knee Injuries and Disorders
Arthritis is the most common disease that affects bones in your knees. The cartilage in the knee gradually wears away, causing pain and swelling. Injuries to ligaments and tendons also cause knee problems. A common injury is to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). You usually injure your ACL by a sudden twisting motion. ACL and other knee injuries are common sports injuries.
Treatment of knee problems depends on the cause. In some cases your doctor may recommend knee replacement.

What Should I Know Before Using Dietary Supplements?
Consider: Safety First. Some supplement ingredients, consist of nutrients and plant components, and may be toxic support on their activity in your body. Do not replace with a dietary supplement for a prescription medicine or therapy.
Think about twice follow the latest headline. Sound health advice is normally based on research over time, not a single study advertises by the media. Be suspicious of outcome claiming a "quick fix" that depart from scientific research and start dietary guidance.
Discover to Spot False Claims. Remember: "If somewhat sounds too good to be true, it perhaps is." Some examples of false claims on product labels:
Fast and consequence "cure-all"
Can treat or make well disease.
"Totally safe," "all natural," and has "certainly no side effects."
Limited availability, "no-risk, money-back guarantees," or need advance payment.
More may not be better. Some products can be injurious when consumed in high amounts, for a long time, or in grouping with certain other substances.
The word "natural" doesn't always mean secure. Do not think that this term ensures wholesomeness or safety. For some supplements, "natural" element may interact with medicines, be risky for people with certain health conditions, or be dangerous in high doses. For example, tea made from peppermint leaves is normally considered safe to drink, but peppermint oil (extracted from the leaves) is much more rigorous and can be toxic if used improperly.
Is the product value the money? Resist the pressure to buy a product or treatment "on the spot." Some supplement products may be costly or may not give the benefit you expect. For example, too much amounts of water-soluble vitamins, like vitamin C and B vitamins, are not used by the body and are eliminated in the urine.

Preventing Sun Damage
Put on a hat, long-sleeved shirts and long pants when going out in the sun. Prefer tightly-woven cloth for better protection from the sun's rays.
Apply a sunscreen prior to every exposure to the sun, and reapply regularly and liberally, at least each two hours, as long as you keep on in the sun. The sunscreen should constantly be reapplied after swimming or perspiring heavily, because products change in their degrees of water resistance. I suggest sunscreens with as SPF (sun protection factor) of 15 or more printed on the label.
Don't fail to remember to use your sunscreen on gloomy days. The sun's rays are as damaging to your skin on cloudy, hazy days as they are on sunny days.
Individuals at high risk for skin cancer (outdoor workers, fair-skinned individuals, and persons who have already had skin cancer) should apply sunscreens daily.
